What a visit records

Once you scroll, move the pointer, touch the screen or press a key, or once a page has been visible for five seconds, the page sends this server one short note. It holds the page address, the page that linked you here, your screen size, your browser's user agent, whether a real input sent it and whether the browser says it is automated. The server adds your IP address, the time, the kind of system your browser names, such as Android or Windows, and a visit code made from the day, your IP address and your user agent, so that the pages you read on one day count as one visit.

When a known search engine or other crawler loads a page, the server records the page, the page that linked to it, the crawler's IP address, its user agent and the time. Notes that known bots send are thrown away.

The tools send the same note and nothing more. The records only count readers and tell people from bots. The code is Nitramine's own; no analytics service is involved and nobody else gets the records.

Where it is kept

The records sit in a database on the server that runs this site, rented from Hetzner in Germany. The IP address is stored in full. The records are not deleted automatically yet. To have the records of your visits deleted, write to Nitramine with the day of your visit and your IP address.

What stays in your browser

Drawings, meshes and audio files you open in cicada, schmelze and seance are read in your browser and never uploaded.

Your browser's local storage keeps your choice of the light or the dark theme. cicada keeps your drawing there, so that it survives a reload, with its grid, snap and panel settings. schmelze keeps your project, the material, the printer settings and the calibration of each filament. A file you drop on a guide page waits in your browser's IndexedDB until the tool opens it, and the tool then deletes it there.

None of this is sent anywhere. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it.

Voice commands

Voice commands are a test feature and stay off unless you open a tool with ?labs=voice. Then the tool uses your browser's speech recognition and asks for it to run on your device. A browser that cannot do that may send what you say to its maker.

Nothing from other sites

Fonts, icons, pictures and every script come from this server. The pages embed nothing from other sites, and a link to another site only takes you there when you follow it.

Server logs

The site itself writes no request log. The proxy in front of it logs a request only when passing it on fails, with the IP address, the time, the page address and the request headers. That log is not public, and its oldest entries are overwritten once it reaches 30 MB.
